Department: Finance 

Reports to: Treasury Manager 

Location: Lagos 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The accountant will be responsible for managing financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The accountant will report to the Treasury Manager and any other stakeholders of the company. 

The accountant main duties: 

1. Financial Recordkeeping: 

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records. 

• Record financial transactions in the general ledger. 

• Ensure compliance with accounting principles and standards. 

2. Financial Reporting: 

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. 

• Generate reports for management to facilitate decision-making. 

3. Reconciliation: 

• Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and other financial records. 

• Investigate and resolve discrepancies. 

4. Budgeting and Forecasting: 

• Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts. 

• Monitor budgetary performance and provide variance analysis. 

5. Tax Compliance: 

• Prepare and file various tax returns, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. 

• Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations. 

6. Audit Support: 

• Assist in the coordination and preparation for internal and external audits. 

• Provide necessary documentation and explanations during audit processes. 

7. Financial Analysis: 

• Analyze financial data and trends to provide insights for decision-making. 

• Make recommendations for improving financial performance. 

8. Expense Management: 

• Track and analyze expenses to ensure they align with the budget. 

• Identify cost-saving opportunities. 

9. Cash Management: 

• Monitor cash flow and liquidity. 

• Manage the disbursement and collection of funds. 

10. Compliance: 

• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. 

• Keep abreast of changes in accounting standards. 

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES 

• Strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations. 

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills. 

• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities 

• Ability to comply and align with team work ethics and deliver on timeline.  

• Ability to work with minimal supervision. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. (Master’s degree is an added advantage). 

• ICAN / ACCA or equivalent certification. 

• Proven experience as an accountant. 

• Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. 

• Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting.
